The naive movement is a particular period that I am fond of and influenced by. Having growing up with parents of the 1940's and 1950's this was a significant design in our home, our fashion and our attitude to a degree. It conjures a time of simple pleasures, that although depicted in almost comic theme was a time of classical beauty and yet called for the beginning of radical change for women and men in modern society.

well looking at the cover it looks like a regular book but its actually in comic book style. Its about the Islamic Revolution in Iran told from the perspective of a little girl who live with her parents there. It explores a lot of different themes like justice, god, war, religion, women's rights, etc which is the amazing thing about it because on the surface it just looks like a black and white comic book. The illustrations play a huge role though because that's part of how the story is told. I think they recently made a movie of it too.

Have you heard of the book Persepolis? I think you would admire the design in it alot. It was an amazing read as well as great simplistic artistic illustration in it. I'd definitely say its more modern though.

Yes, I too recall this type of art through cartoons! It almost reminds me of Andy Warhal pop art with a different content. I particularly like the color and hue as it is subtle yet striking. Oh! This has bought back memories! Now back to the book. What an edition that would be to our collection and we say books are dying. Not if we produce beautiful pieces like this.

Well done and thanks for the great article.
